Placido Domingo, the world-famous tenor, the best one of the turn of the century, will give an amazing Christmas concert in Poland.
On 22 December 2019, he will perform at TAURON Arena Krakow and will be accompanied by the Cracovian orchestra Sinfonietta Cracovia - the Orchestra of the Capital Royal City of Krakow.
Placido Domingo is an outstanding talent and a stage personality. His unique vocal technique, beautiful timbre (he is said to have a dark voice - tenor spinto), and his acting skills are well known. Placido Domingo is the undisputed star of international opera stages, a singer, a conductor and a co-creator of numerous musical events.
Together with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras, they created an unparalleled trio of world-class tenors.
Placido Domingo, or, more precisely, Jose Placido Domingo Embil, was born on 21 January 1941 in Madrid. His parents were also musicians and they ensured that young Domingo received music education. He made his operatic debut in the main role in 1961, in the National Opera, in La traviata by Verdi, playing Alfred, and he quickly began his international career. He has performed in plays in leading theatres and opera houses around the world, in La Scala in Milan, in the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and in Covent Garden in London. His debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York took place in 1968, and since then he has been performing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York every season. He opened the season twenty times; in 2012, he celebrated his eight hundredth appearance. So far, he has played 46 roles at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Placido Domingo is not only a world-class tenor: he is also a conductor who made his debut in 1973 and 1974 at the New York City Opera in La traviata by Verdi. Later he conducted at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, at La Scala, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, at the Royal Opera House and at the Paris Opera.
Placido Domingo has played 144 roles in various languages, in Italian, German, Spanish, French, English and even Russian, although the majority of his repertoire is in Italian. He has participated in more than a hundred recordings, most of which are recordings of complete operas.
Placido Domingo has visited Poland five times. In 1992, he performed for the first time in Poland during the charity concert "Heart for Heart", organised by the Zbigiew Religa Foundation for the Development of Cardiac Surgery. In June 2003, Placido Domingo received an honorary doctorate from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music. The singer returned to Warsaw also two years later and in 2005 he played Siegmund in Valkyrie by Richard Wagner at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. Four years later, on 8 June 2009, he performed at the Teatr Wielki in Łódź, during a concert commemorating the ninetieth anniversary of the Łódź Province. The next visit to Poland took place on 27 April 2014. Placido Domingo appeared in the concert "Here Poland began" in Poznan.
